Harrisburg, Pa.: When Sarah Palin was first chosen to be John McCain's running mate, some of the initial stories mentioned how she had admitted using marijuana. This overall is not a big deal in politics, except I noticed that some of the "religious right" seemed to then pull their punches about Obama's admitted youthful drug use in his autobiography. I don't believe past drug use was much raised as a concern from either side, except in the small blogosphere world. I am not wondering, though: where did the reports that Sarah Palin used marijuana originate, were they true, and is this a sign that most of the public is no longer as concerned about youthful indiscretions and more about current qualifications?

How on Earth did we miss this one?

While bouncing around the blogosphere, I stumbled on a post about the winner of the ABC reality show True Beauty, a Tyra Banks-Ashton Kutcher endeavor (love them!) that corralled "six stunning females and four handsome males" into a Los Angeles mansion to judge them on their achingly good looks and, unbeknownst to them, their inner beauty. (As if that ultimately matters.)

The winner of the short series—it debuted Jan. 5 and the finale aired Monday—was a former Miss Teen Texas named Julia Anderson. She's cute, perky and all—so good for her. But the tasty morsel we're really salivating over is 26-year-old runner-upJoel Rush, a stunning specimen of sexual perfection who favors monochromatic tattoos, leather pants and a lean, muscular physique that screams, "I'm going to be your wet dream tonight."

According to his ABC bio, Joel embraces a workout regiment that "is all about looking great naked." It also notes that the beautiful one is the "self-proclaimed 'Crown Prince of Cool'" and "the loudest, most conceited man at any party."

Small fire extinguished in Richmond Bio-Rad lab

A small fire flared up in the Bio-Rad Laboratories facility on Regatta Boulevard in Richmond around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, but no hazardous materials were released and firefighters extinguished the blaze almost immediately, a battalion chief said.

The fire started in laboratory equipment, damaging one room at the lab, said Battalion Chief Byron Berhel of the Richmond Fire Department. Bio-Rad employees were at work cleaning up smoke damage Sunday afternoon, according to Berhel.

Hercules-based Bio-Rad makes life science research and clinical diagnostic products and has facilities around the world.
